To Find Someone who …

21 Jul

This topic will train the students to demonstrate their ability to implement their English orally. The aim of this topic is that the students should be able to :

1. get to know their classmates

2. think about what he/she can say in English.

The following steps is what the students do in the classroom:

First teacher explain to the students that they will practice speaking by looking for data from their friends in the classroom. The students are asked to find the data by interviewing his/her friends about:

  • who likes playing sportss.
  • who doesn’t like speaking in the class
  • who loves eating meat ball
  • who didn’t do the last homework.
  • who enjoys coming to English lesson
  • who has a pet at home
  • who has been to the beach recently
  • who has got a tattoo

Make sure the students understand how to approach this speaking activity. If you think your students may have problems forming the questions, you as teacher, could do this with them orally firs, and then allow them to ‘ find someone who…….’ Also help them with some prompts for the follow up questions.

The students report back on their survey. For example, Andi likes playing Futsal because his house is not far from the Fotsal club. But it is difference with Anton, he doesn’t like playing sport even though the clubs of sports are surrounding his house,  he prefers going to the beach with his sweaty pet, doggy, her name is Rindu.

As students decide what they can say in English, get them to give each other examples. This activity will make the students more aware of what they can already say in English. To do this, you can ask your students about what can they say in English, Example : In English I can say ……

numbers                                                the color of the rainbow

the month of the year                      10 verbs

ten animals                                            The days of the week

ten adjectives                                       the parts of the body

five sports                                              ten adverbs

the time                                                   the alphabet

Here is another list! What can you do in English? Be Honest!

In English I can ………..

describe my self

describe my family

describe my friends

talk about school

talk about I want to do in the future

talk about my last holiday

describe the food I like to eat

talk about my favorite hobbies

Practice! Choose two or three and tell to a classmate. Don’t write anything.
